Pidcock defeated in a two-man sprint; Van Aert 3rd
Tadej Pogacar wins the Milan-Sanremo, 298 km from Pavia to Sanremo.
The initial breakaway in the morning was formed with 9 men: Belletta, Maestri, Faure Prost, Peron, Lozano, Moro, Milesi, Tarozzi and Marcellusi.
The leaders close to a 7-minute lead and UAE, with 80km to go, hand over to Dillier at the head of the group.
Just before the Cipressa comes Pogacar's incredible crash , which also takes Van Aert, Girmay, Pellizzari and Jorgenson to the ground.
The world champion manages to rejoin the climb and attacks at the top after del Toro's work. Only Pidcock and Van der Poel remain with him.
From behind, the main group, consisting of around fifty riders, gets very close to the three leaders before the Poggio.
Incredibly, at the start of the climb , Van der Poel breaks away .
Pogacar attacked twice, but was unable to dislodge Pidcock . The two reached the summit with a 15-second lead over Van der Poel and a 20-second lead over the main group.
In the two-man sprint with Pidcock, Pogacar accelerates, resists the British rider's comeback and triumphs !
Van Aert anticipates the bunch sprint and gets ahead of Pedersen.
