Philipsen second in sprint
Jonathan Milan won the first stage of the Renewi Tour, from Riemst to Bilzen, 163.6 km. The Lidl Trek rider is the first leader of the general classification. The race ended, as expected, with a sprint in which one of the favorites, Olav Kooij, did not participate, having fallen 15 km from the finish along with other riders.
Milan took advantage of the work of Mathieu Van der Poel for his teammate Jasper Philipsen, fitting perfectly into the Alpecin 'train' and demonstrating the great condition already seen at the recent Tour of Germany (where he won three stages).
Dylan Groenewegen and Tim Merlier crashed just after the finish line. The latter was demoted for dishonest behaviour towards his opponent.
