Bad news for all cycling fans: Wout Van Aert will no longer race this season ; the Team Visma rider therefore loses the chance to fight for the European and World Championships, big goals in this final part of 2024.

The Belgian, after an unfortunate spring, was back in great shape : in fact, he had won three stages at the Vuelta and was the leader of both the points classification and the climbers' classification.

The descent of Collada Llomena was unfortunately fatal for the rest of Van Aert's season, as he had also fallen during the first kilometres of the sixteenth stage.

The news from two days ago, in which fractures were ruled out, had given hope for a recovery in time for the races in mid-September, unfortunately, Team Visma recently announced that the knee injury is too serious to return to racing within a couple of weeks.

We at Fantacycling also wish Wout Van Aert a speedy recovery and that he can return in 2025 to fight for important goals, without bad luck hitting him again .
