72km solo breakaway and victory in the first stage
Tadej Pogacar wins the first stage of the Tour de Suisse with start and finish in Sondrio (144 km).
After the initial two-man breakaway made up of Beullens and Dversnes , the race exploded near the two intermediate sprints, with Pogacar accelerating for the bonus seconds and going off alone, surprising everyone, with 72 km to go.
Behind the world champion, a group of 17 men formed and crested the Triangia ridge with a 1:15 delay. Carapaz then attempted to break away from this small group, gaining a comfortable lead himself.
Pogacar easily sprinted to victory with a massive lead. Carapaz placed second, gaining significant time on his rivals in the fight for the podium. Bagioli , who started on the downhill, took third place.
The group controlled by Van Wilder arrives after 4 minutes; Roglic takes almost 5 minutes.
