Van Aert second, Roglic still on the ground
Biniam Girmay won the 12th stage of the Tour de France, from Aurillac to Villeneuve sur Lot of 203 km. The group catches up with a breakaway of four riders (Turgis, Madouas, Pacher and Abrahamsen) and heads towards a safe sprint. The winner is the Eritrean from Intermarché, increasingly green jersey, with his third stage success in the Grand Boucle. Behind him Wout Van Aert and Arnaud Démare, Jasper Philipsen is only sixth.
But the jury downgraded Démare himself and also Mark Cavendish for incorrect sprinting.
12 km from the finish, a fall knocks out, among others, Primoz Roglic and Mathieu Van der Poel. The Slovenian, battered, reaches the finish line with a delay of about 2'30".
Fabio Jakobsen and Pello Bilbao retired during the stage.
