Drilling for Evenepoel, the Belgian loses ground

Tim Merlier (Alpecin Fenix) won the first stage of the Benelux Tour, 169km from Surhuisterveen to Dokkum. The Belgian rider preceded Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain Victorius) and Alvaro Hodeg (Deceuninck Quick Step) in the sprint. A second group with Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck Quick Step) is about a minute late. Merlier wears the first jersey of leader of the general classification.
