Fifth stage, Roglic remains leader of the general classification
Pavel Bittner won the fifth stage of the Vuelta a España, from Fuente del Maestra to Seville, 177 km. The easiest stage of the Iberian race was made difficult by the great heat with the temperature reaching 40 degrees.
After a long breakaway between two riders (Ruiz and Juaristi), the group started to get serious about forty kilometers from the finish, increasing speed and catching up with the escapees.
As expected, the race ended in a sprint: this time it was the Czech from Team DSM who beat Wout Van Aert and Kaden Groves, who finished second and third respectively.
Primoz Roglic maintained the lead in the overall standings.
