Torstein Traeen in the red jersey; Ayuso in crisis

Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates) wins the sixth stage of the Vuelta Espana, from Olot to Pal (170 km).

On the Collada de Sentigosa , the first GPM of the day, a breakaway of ten men broke away: Vine, Fortunato, Vervaeke, Garofoli, Armirail, Castrillo, Debruyne, Ryan, Shaw and Traeen.

The group, which initially seemed to want to control the race, gave way to the leaders who reached the foot of the last two climbs with a 5'30" advantage.

On the Alto de la Comella, Vine attacked near the top and remained alone in the lead, while the red jersey group picked up the pace thanks to Lidl-Trek and Team Visma.

The Australian immediately widened his gap on the final climb and sprinted solo to the finish line. Behind him, the battle for the red jersey rewarded Traeen , who outdistanced his fellow breakaway riders and finished second on the stage; Fortunato finished third.

Ayuso surprisingly breaks away from the leading group almost immediately . Ciccone tries to attack with Vingegaard right behind him, but in the final kilometers the leaders in the standings come back and all arrive together.
