Dane beats world champion and Evenepoel
Surprise at the Amstel Gold Race: Mattias Skjelmose won the 59th edition of the Dutch race, outsprinting Tadej Pogacar and Remco Evenepoel.
Pogacar started with 40 km to go following Julian Alaphilippe. While the Frenchman immediately broke away, behind him first Skjelmose and then Evenepoel began to make up seconds on the Slovenian who seemed to be in a bit of trouble.
The two returned to the world champion for a three-way sprint that saw the Danish rider from Lidl Trek triumph.
Wout Van Aert led the pack behind them for yet another fourth place after his finishes at Flanders and Roubaix.
