Solitary action by the Slovenian, Healy surprised

Tadej Pogacar wins the Amstel Gold Race 2023. Great solo action by the Slovenian who detaches his opponents 28 km from the conclusion and goes on to win without discussion.

With 80 km to go, a leading group formed by 16 riders, including Pogacar, Pidcock, Sheffield, Gianni Vermeersch and Lutsenko.

Pogacar wasted no time and on the first pass on the Cauberg he tried a forcing to skim the leading group.

35 km from the finish some riders move from behind to get back to the leading group, among the most active Bagioli and Benoot, but the attempt is not successful. Immediately after Pogacar extends and only Pidcock and a surprising Ben Healy manage to keep his wheel, with Lutsenko and Kron remaining 10” behind.

On the Kautenberg Pogacar attacks again and this time first Healy, then Pidcock, give way; the Slovenian flies off alone towards the finish line.

Behind Healy manages to detach Pidcock and earns second place, while the Briton takes third place ahead of Kron and Lutsenko.
