The Belgian dominates the race and even catches up with Pogacar
Remco Evenepoel (Belgium) wins the World Championships time trial on the 40.6 km course in Kigali.
The first to set an interesting time was his compatriot Van Wilder who placed himself at the top of the partial rankings with 52'22".
Del Toro started out very strong: at the first split time, he was actually ahead of everyone, but then dropped off dramatically over the next 30 km. His teammate Pogacar , on the other hand, didn't appear to be in great shape and paid the price compared to the more pure time trialists.
Evenepoel made things clear right away: he outperformed the competition from the very first pedal strokes with a 44" lead over Del Toro at the first intermediate point, 1'17" over Vine at the second and 1'24" over the Australian at the third.
The defending champion caught Pogacar on the final cobbled climb and took his third consecutive gold medal in the event, with Vine taking silver and Van Wilder taking bronze. Pogacar finished fourth by just one second.
