The Belgian champion could add the Swiss race and the National Time Trial Championship to his pre-Tour de France schedule
Remco Evenepoel is considering including the Tour de Romandie and the National Time Trial Championships in his build-up to the Tour de France, according to Belgian media.
After suffering multiple fractures in a serious winter training crash, Evenepoel is currently on the road to recovery and is currently in the highlands of Spain’s Sierra Nevada with the Soudal-QuickStep squad for the Giro d’Italia. His season debut is scheduled for the Brabantse Pijl on April 18, followed by a campaign in the Ardennes Classics.
Evenepoel could also ride the Tour de Romandie (April 29 - May 4) and could also add the Belgian National Time Trial Championship, scheduled in Brasschaat on June 27, just before the Tour de France.
The reigning world time trial champion has limited experience of the Tour de Romandie, having ridden it once in 2019 when he finished 76th. After the Romandie, Evenepoel is expected to return to the mountains for a second training camp before taking part, as originally planned, in the Criterium du Dauphiné. This could be the first meeting of the season with his main rivals in the 2023 Tour: Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogačar.
The decision on participation in the National Time Trial Championship could depend on the route that will be revealed on April 11. The event could serve as an important test in view of the 2025 Tour de France time trial, scheduled in Caen over a distance of 33 kilometers.
