Bad weather protagonist: many favorites out
Stephen Williams (Israel Premier Tech) won the 88th edition of the Freccia-Vallone starting from Charleroi and arriving on the Huy wall after 198 km. The race was conditioned by bad weather, with rain, cold and even a few snowflakes. Many big names pay the price, including Mattias Skjelmose, Thomas Pidcock, Aleksandr Vlasov, Dylan Teuns and the entire Uae including Marc Hirschi and Juan Ayuso.
70 minutes from the finish, Soren Kragh Andersen tries, attacking and maintaining a lead of over a minute for many kilometres. Behind him, among the most active, Richard Carapaz, Santiago Buitrago, Stephen Williams, Maxim Van Gils and Kevin Vauquelin. Uno-X also did well with five riders in the top group. Kragh Andersen is caught again at -14, with the Huy wall, climbed four times today, once again decisive.
Here Williams starts long and manages to cross the finish line first over Vauquelin and Van Gils.
