Ethan Vernon wins the 170.9km first stage of the Tour de Romandie from Crissier to Vallée de Joux .

The Briton of Soudal Quick Step precedes the two Belgians Thibau Nys (Trek-Segafredo) and Milan Menten (Lotto Dstny) in the sprint. Surprising fourth place for Roman Bardet (Team DSM), who despite not being a sprinter is ready for the sprint, immediately ahead of Jacopo Mosca , fifth.

Ethan Vernon is also the new leader of the general classification with the same time as his teammate Josef Cerny and 1" ahead of Tobias Foss (Team Jumbo Visma).

Of note are some illustrious retirements, Simon Yates , Rui Costa and Mark Cavedish , as well as Alexey Lutsenko who retired before the start of the stage.
