Remco Evenepoel won stage one of the Giro d'Italia, a 19.6km individual time trial from Fossacesia Marina to Ortona.

The world champion dominated the race, finishing with a time of 21'18" at an average speed of over 55 km/h. No one came close to him: Filippo Ganna came second at 22", Joao Almeida third at 29" Primoz Roglic lost 43".

The Belgian wears the first pink jersey of the 2023 Giro.
