The German champion beats Pidcock in the sprint
Georg Zimmermann won the 63rd edition of the Eschborn-Frankfurt World Tour race, held today in Germany over the distance of 211.4 km.
After catching an initial breakaway of six riders, Tim Wellens and Emiel Verstrynge attacked, but first the Belgian from Alpecin and then his compatriot from UAE Emirates were caught. On the final pass of Mammolshain, with 36 km to go, twelve riders gained the lead: Pidcock, Bilbao, Izagirre, Tulett, Baudin, Valgren, Tesfatsion, Pericas, Engelhardt, Zimmermann, Gualdi, and Stork.
Having found a way to cooperate, they risked being caught just meters from the finish line, but the German champion managed to secure victory, his fifth career victory, ahead of Pidcock and Tulett in the sprint. Simone Gualdi finished fifth.
