Sylvan Adams steps aside and team abandons Israeli identity after recent controversies

A momentous shift awaits Israel-Premier Tech in 2026 , with major changes in both ownership and the team's identity. The team announced Monday that owner Sylvan Adams will step down, while the team will undergo a complete rebranding, abandoning its current Israeli identity.

The decision comes after particularly difficult months for the team, which has been the target of several pro-Palestine protests due to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The events caused significant disruptions during the Vuelta a España and led the team to withdraw from several late-season races in Italy due to security concerns.

Pressure also came from major sponsors – particularly bicycle manufacturer Factor and title sponsor Premier Tech – who expressed a desire to remove the word 'Israel' from the team name.

A new chapter on the horizon

"With an unwavering commitment to our riders, staff, and valued partners, the decision has been made to rename and reposition the team, moving away from its current Israeli identity," the official statement reads. "In sport, progress often requires sacrifice, and this step is essential to secure the team's future."

Adams will focus on his role as President of the World Jewish Congress Israel, relinquishing day-to-day management of the team. While the new name and branding have not yet been revealed, the team has confirmed it will maintain its commitment to developing young talent, a key element of its identity since its founding a decade ago.

"While a new chapter awaits us, which will be revealed soon, the team will remain true to its founding promise: to develop cycling talent from around the world," concluded the Israel-Premier Tech statement.
