The Dane is the new leader of the general classification
Jonas Vingegaard wins the third stage of the Itzulia Basque Country from Errenteria to Amasa-Villabona of 162.8 km. The Dane extends on the final stretch leaving no space for the others and precedes Landa and Mas .
Six riders who enliven the race by attempting the day's attack: Nicolas Prodhomme (AG2R Citroen), Thibault Guernalec (Arkea Samsic), Simon Geschke (Cofidis), Georg Zimmermann (Intermarché Circus Wanty), Rémi Cavagna (Soudal Quick Step), Pierre Latour (Total Energies).
The breakaway was resumed 25 kilometers from the finish, while 15 km from the conclusion Esteban Chaves tried the solitary attack, followed by James Knox and Juan Pedro Lopez.
During the last kilometre, however, the three are caught up again (the last one to give up is Lopez) and Vingegaard extends after the excellent work of his teammate Attila Valter . The Dane also takes advantage of a mistake by Higuita who risks a crash and causes a slowdown among the first riders of the group.
Well done Landa who finished in second place, immediately ahead of Mas.
Jonas Vingegaard is the new leader of the general classification.
