General manager Haugland: "We deserve to participate in the grand tours"
Uno-X is thinking about moving to the World Tour , the Norwegian Professional team that has just hired an experienced rider like Alexander Kristoff, wants to make a further leap in quality and the Norwegian general manager, Jens Haugland , will go to Switzerland for the request form the Union Cycliste Internationale and obtain a World Tour licence.
Uno-X would be willing to give it a try even if the regulation, in this sense, is clear: there are 18 World Tour places for 2023 and they are assigned on the basis of the scoring system established by the three-year ranking which has just seen relegation by Lotto-Soudal and Israel-PremierTech with the contextual "promotion" of Alpecin-Deceuninck and Arkéa-Samsic .
Scandinavian cycling deserves a place on the biggest stage – said di Haugland – It may not happen right away, but it will happen. We would, however, do it with both men and women (who already have the license for the maximum level). We are the fourth Professional team in the category ranking, but there are 5 criteria to be respected to be a World Tour: in addition to sports results, there are financial, ethical, administrative and organizational ones. We, the last 4 respect them in full. We pay everything we owe to everyone, from day one of our existence as a team; we have not had any cases of doping in our history; we have never missed a deadline set by the UCI; over the years we have developed an efficient and innovative structure. We know the rules, but we also know that if we don't try, we will never have a chance to be heard. And also, we begin to understand how the thing works. Because, from now on, we will continue to apply, until we have the World Tour license ”.
