“Cycling has been my life for 25 years, I lived a dream”

On the rest day of the Giro d'Italia, the confirmation of news that had already been in the air for several months arrived: for Cavendish, 2023 will be the last year in the group. The British sprinter thought it was the best time to announce it, he thanks cycling with moving words and doesn't rule out a distant future for this sport.

The 38-year-old from Astana Qazaqstan has achieved 161 victories in his career, of which 34 in the Tour and 16 in the Giro, as well as an Olympic silver medal in the omnium in Rio. In this Corsa Rosa, his best result is third place in Tortona; there will still be two occasions for him (Wednesday in Caorle and Sunday in Rome) to try to make his mark for the last time at the Giro d'Italia.
