McNulty is the surprise new world champion

Brandon McNulty (USA) is the new world champion! The UAE rider wins the Canadian World Championship ahead of Matthews van der Poel.

After a great effort by France , the race exploded with about a hundred kilometers to go, with the first attacks from the top riders, with Van Aert and Van der Poel pulling away. These moves allowed the first breakaway of the morning, initially consisting of 16 men, to be recaptured.

After these attempts, a quartet of Van der Poel, Roglic, Onley, and Simmons formed up front, while Belgium attacked from behind with Van Aert and Evenepoel. Seixas and Del Toro, on the other hand, tried to keep the pace high.

With 50km to go, Healy attacks and reaches the men in front, while in the meantime Onley gives up and drops away.

With two laps to go, another push from Del Toro allows the top ten riders to catch up with the top four. With 30 km to go, McNulty makes a strong start: the American breaks away and gains almost a minute on all his rivals.

On the penultimate pass over Camillien-Houde , Pidcock tries to make amends and puts Del Toro in difficulty. Ciccone, Jorgenson, Matthews, and Seixas join the Briton. On the descent, Van der Poel, Healy, and Del Toro himself also join him.

On the final lap, Mcnulty passed with a 50-second lead on the rest of the leading riders, including Evenepoel . On the final climb, Pidcock and Ciccone set off and almost caught Mcnulty, but, having come back from behind the other top riders, no one cooperated and the American sprinted towards the finish line.

McNulty won by a wide margin and became the new world champion, followed by Matthews and Van der Poel.
