The Colombian remained out of action for the whole of 2023
From rumors to confirmation: Nairo Quintana has signed a one-year contract with Movistar. The 33-year-old Colombian, career winner of the Giro d'Italia and a Vuelta di Spagna, has been out of cycling for all of 2023.
That all changed the day before the start of last season's Vuelta, in Utrecht, when Arkea was informed that the rider had tested positive for tramadol (an opioid painkiller) during the Tour. Quintana was disqualified from the French race, in which finishing sixth, but not sanctioned: from that moment he remained without a team until today, the day in which he returns to Movistar with whom he had already raced from 2012 to 2019.
For the owner of the Spanish team, Eusebio Unzué , it is "a great reinforcement. He is only 33 years old and he is fit, I know, because he has not stopped training in Andorra, where he lives with his entire family and where he maintains a excellent relationship with Enric Mas, the team leader."
