Second Madouas, third Benoot
Thomas Pidcock won the 17th edition of the Strade Bianche with start and finish in Siena.
After 184 km, the Ineos Grenadiers rider arrived alone in Piazza del Campo thanks to an action that started about 50 km from the finish together with Andrea Bagioli (who however immediately lost his wheel) and Alberto Bettiol (later crashed) . Pidcock then recovered the three protagonists of the day's breakaway: the last to give up was Alessandro De Marchi.
Behind him emerged a small group with, among the most active, Tiesj Benoot and Attila Valter of Jumbo, Rui Costa of Intermarché, Matej Mohoric of Bahrain and Valentin Madouas of Groupama while Mathieu Van der Poel and Julian Alaphilippe got into trouble, both never fighting for the top positions.
The Briton managed to maintain a slight advantage and beat an excellent Madouas and Benoot, on the podium of the day.
