The sports director talks to Fantacycling about talents and confides: "Evenepoel? He won't make the Tour"
Egan Bernal 's program for 2023, Tom Pidcock 's choices and Carlos Rodriguez 's future are among the topics covered by the sporting director of Team Ineos Grenadiers, Matteo Tosatto , guest on Thursday evening at the Fantacycling live.
The sports director said he was satisfied with the season just ended: “We did not win great laps but we finished second in the Giro and third in the Tour, while at the Vuelta we just touched the podium. The icing on the cake came in the classics with the victories in Paris-Roubaix and Amstel ”.
Missing was Egan Bernal: “We have to understand after two or three months of retirement which races he will race. At the moment he could start at the Vuelta di San Juan, in Argentina, otherwise he will be at the start of the Italian races in March. The important thing is that I saw him mentally strong, aware that this is an important year for his career ”.
Tosatto also spoke of Tao Geoghegan Hart: "He had a lot of bad luck in 2022, a good result would give him a big boost but he doesn't have to look back", of the rising star Rodriguez: "He made a significant leap in quality, with us he has a one-year contract and I know that he has the line of teams that want him , I would do anything to keep him ", and Tom Pidcock, divided between cyclocross, classics and stage races:" He has a champion head, but he has to do a choice of preparation to understand which races to aim for ”.
With Tosatto we also discussed some names that Ineos could present at the start of the Giro d'Italia 2023, the possible participation of Remco Evenepoel in the Tour , and many other talents of the British team, starting with Magnus Sheffield.
