Stage number 12 of the Tour de France of 168.8 km starting from Roanne and finishing in Belleville-en-Beaujolais.

The race is spectacular right from the early stages with a very high pace and a breakaway of fifteen riders who manage to escape from the group.

On the Col de la Croix Montman Mathieu Van der Poel tries a solo personal action and manages to gain about twenty seconds on the other attackers. On the Col de la Croix Rosier, 30 km from the finish, a small group of seven runners managed to get back to the Dutchman in command of the race. Ion Izagirre attacks decisively 2 kilometers from the summit and digs an important furrow on the six runners in his pursuit, going down the hill with a 20” margin. In the subsequent downhill and flat stretches the Basque continues to gain seconds and manages to bring his advantage close to one minute.

Izagirre triumphs alone in Belleville thanks also to teammate Martin who blocks any pursuit attempt. Burgaudeau closes in second place, while Jorgenson completes the podium of the day.

Vingegaard's yellow jersey group reaches over 4' with all the big names in the general classification together.
