Tour de France: Van der Poel's masterpiece in Paris

Mathieu Van der Poel won the 21st and final stage of the Tour de France, starting and finishing in Paris, covering 88.7 km.

For the second consecutive year, the Montmartre climb provides a spectacular backdrop to the final act of the race, with the classification times being taken 48km from the finish.

On the second pass of Montmartre, Pogacar made a powerful attack, followed by Van der Poel. Evenepoel and Pedersen returned on the descent, but Decathlon refused to give up and fell back, along with 60 other riders. Meanwhile, Del Toro lost minutes after a puncture.

On the final lap, Van der Poel tried to get ahold of Pogacar. The Slovenian threw in the towel with less than a kilometer to go, but Vdp kept his faith until the end and managed to overtake Philipsen and Pedersen by just a few meters.

Pogacar wins his fifth Tour, equaling Merckx, Hinault, Anquetil, and Indurain. On the final podium are Evenepoel and Del Toro, who takes the white young rider jersey. Pedersen takes the green jersey, and Carapaz takes the polka dot.
