Pogacar attacks but Vingegaard resists
Carlos Rodriguez won the fourteenth (and beautiful) stage of the Tour de France, from Annemasse to Morzine les Portes du Soleil of 151 km with five mountain grand prix and the summit of the last one, the tough Col de Joux Plane, about ten kilometers from the finish line.
Day of crashes: forced to retire Romain Bardet and Louis Meintjes. The break was short-lived with the leading group pulled by the Jumbo Visma.
On the Col de la Ramaz Thomas Pidcock goes into crisis, about twenty remain, seven instead on the last climb. Here Tadej Pogacar attacks but Jonas Vingegaard holds on. The two check each other and climb the hill together (the Dane gets the bonus), slow down and are joined by Adam Yates and Carlos Rodriguez. The Spaniard anticipates his opponents in the downhill and conquers the second consecutive success for Ineos.
Pogacar finished second ahead of Vingegaard: now the gap between the two in the general standings is 10 seconds in favor of the Jumbo Visma rider.
