Giulio Ciccone wins the polka dot shirt
Last stage of the 2023 Tour de France before tomorrow's catwalk on the Champs Elysées: in addition to the stage victory, the final podium finishes and the polka dot jersey are up for grabs.
As for the latter, Giulio Ciccone closes the games immediately by winning the first four gpm of the day. This is the first blue success in this special ranking for thirty-one years now. The only positive note for the Italian shipment to France.
In the first part of the race, a breakaway of about fifteen riders forms, on the Petit Ballon, penultimate climb, Pinot remains alone in the lead with 30” over Pidcock-Harper-Barguil and 1'20” over the yellow jersey group. On the Col du Platzerwasel, the last climb of this Tour, Pogacar attempted an attack 5km from the summit and made a gap together with Vingegaard and Gall . The trio easily catches up and detaches the three fugitives at the head of the race. The Yates twins are also back at -5 km from the conclusion. The five-man sprint was won by Tadej Pogacar , piloted perfectly by A.Yates, who preceded Gall and Vingegaard.
In the general standings, no changes regarding the final podium (Vingegaard-Pogacar-A.Yates). Simon Yates earns instead the fourth place at the expense of C. Rodriguez.
