The Australian, who fell at the start of the stage, had dropped out on the Menglers Hill GPM

Sam Welsford (Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe) wins the second stage of the Tour Down Under, starting and finishing in Tanunda (128.8 km).

The group approaches the climb of Menglers Hill in a compact group; there are several attempts to attack, but no one manages to make the difference. Sam Welsford , leader of the classification, struggles and drops in the last few hundred meters, perhaps also due to a fall at the start of the stage, but then manages to get back in the next favorable section.

In the final kilometres, Red Bull-Bora once again worked perfectly and brought Welsford into the best possible position. Andresen was on his wheel, but was closed off by Van Poppel at the time of the sprint. Welsford won easily again , this time ahead of Marit and Coquard .
