The Dane: "My knee is giving me problems"
The problems continue for Michael Valgren . The Dane, who fell last June on the Route d'Occitanie , is unable to overcome knee problems and sees his return to racing postponed to an as yet undefined period.
"It's a bit funny, if I think about it, I thought that injuries to the hip and pelvis were the ones that would take the longest to heal - Valgren said in an interview with Tv2 - And instead, at the moment, it's the knee that is giving me problems. There was a time when every pedal stroke gave me hellish pain. The doctors couldn't figure out why and told me to wait for some time. But a lot of time has passed now ”.
Valgren at the time of the fall reported fractures to the pelvic bone and pelvis, as well as breaking the cruciate ligament in the knee. Meanwhile EF Education - EasyPost had placed the runner on their development team pending his full recovery. “I'm tired of all this, but I still have hope. At the moment I'm still in pain and can't train for more than two days in a row. I only ride outdoors in good weather and am spending a lot of time doing strength training. If I had to sign a new contract now, it would be a contract to compete in bodybuilding…
For sure, I canceled the possibility of being able to race the 2023 Tour de France . I'm so sorry, but there's not much I can do about it. I could, hopefully, be ready to race between May and June, but my rehabilitation has already taken a hit – I even thought it would be nice to be at the start of the Vuelta a España 2023, but that's so far away… I'll carry on from week to week. My presence in the development team? At first I didn't like the idea at all, but I had expressed that judgment before the situation took this turn. Let's see if I'll be ready to return to the first team by August."
