The Eritrean precedes Kooij, Movistar gets lost in the final race

Biniam Girmay wins the first stage of the Volta Valenciana from Orihuela to Altea of 189.4km. A decisive sprint by the Eritrean Intermarché rider Circus Wanty who starts long, before 200 meters from the finish line and leaves no room for his opponents.

Second place for Olav Kooij ( Team Jumbo Visma ) ahead of a trio of Movistar riders: Ivan Garcia Cortina , José Rojas and Alex Aranburu . The three Spaniards work well in the final, but perhaps due to some misunderstanding, they are unable to exploit their numerical superiority in the final run. Sixth place for Antonio Soto of Euskaltel Euskadi and seventh for a good Samuele Battistella , who already shows that he is in good condition; while a good Giulio Ciccone is tenth.
