There will be nine uphill finishes (five unpublished ), two time trials, seven mountain stages, six medium mountain stages, four flat and two flat with high altitude finishes. These are the characteristics of the Vuelta 2023, which kicks off from Barcelona on August 26th.

The 78th edition will start, for the second time in its history, from the Catalan city which will host a team time trial. Following the group will head to Andorra da Súria to experience the first mountainous day. The Principality will host the unprecedented first finish of La Vuelta with the climb to Arinsal .

Other interesting stages are the sixth, with the final climb to the Astrophysical Observatory of Javalambre , the eighth on the dreaded Xorret de Catì , the ninth, with arrival in Caravaca de la Cruz , and the eleventh in Laguna de Vinuesa . In between, the tenth time trial stage to be held in Valladolid (25km).

The 13th and 14th stages will be held in the Pyrenees: in the two queen stages Aubisque and Tourmalet (finish) will have to be climbed, Issarbe, Larrau and Larra-Belagua on the second day.

In the last week the great and feared colossus of the Vuelta, the Angliru , the finish site of the 17th stage with its almost impossible slopes exceeding 20%. Asturias will once again be the judge of the race thanks to the presence, the following day, of the ascent of Cruz de Linares.

The penultimate stage in line will arrive in Guadarrama : first there will be 10 third-category small climbs. Finally the closure in Madrid, in the usual catwalk for sprinters, on 17 September.
