The news had been in the air for a few days, and just a short while ago (unfortunately) the confirmation arrived: Wout Van Aert will not participate in the next Tour de France . The Belgian had crashed in training a few days before the Tour Auvergne Rhône Alpes, but he still took part in the French race, managing to authoritatively win the fifth stage with a masterful sprint (in addition to winning the team time trial).
The following day, however, the Team Visma Lease a Bike rider withdrew due to his elbow injury. Today, the Dutch team announced Van Aert's absence from the upcoming Grande Boucle on their social media profiles. His place will likely be taken by Hagenes.
