Grande prova dell'azzurro della AG2R Citroen, protagonista della fuga di giornata, che precede allo sprint l'australiano Chris Hamilton. Terzo posto per Gianluca Brambilla, davanti a George Bennett e Giovanni Visconti. 

Il gruppo maglia rosa arriva a 10' di distacco, regolato da Vincenzo Nibali, che precede Egan Bernal di 7''. La classifica generale resta, comunque, invariata. 

Prova impegnativa a causa della pioggia, soprattutto nella prima parte con molte cadute e ritiri: hanno abbandonato la corsa Alessandro De Marchi, Gino Mader, Marc Soler, Alex Dowsett e Fausto Masnada.
