Ha dovuto aspettare quasi tre anni ma alla fine ce l'ha fatta. Thibaut Pinot ha trasformato le lacrime di ieri, quando si è dovuto arrendere a Miguel Angel Lopez, in un bel sorriso grazie alla vittoria nella quinta e ultima tappa del Tour of the Alps, con partenza e arrivo a Lienz di 114,5 km.

Alle spalle del francese è arrivato David De La Cruz, anche lui protagonista di una lunga fuga insieme al corridore della Groupama, che torna al successo dopo la tappa del Tourmalet al Tour 2019.

Il Tour of the Alps se l'è aggiudicato Romain Bardet che ha staccato sull'ultima salita di giornata Pello Bilbao. Sul podio, insieme al corridore del Team Dsm, anche Michael Storer e Thymen Aresman. Lo spagnolo della Bahrain Victorius ha chiuso fuori dalle prime tre posizioni.
