The runner suspended by Trek-Segafredo

Antonio Tiberi was suspended by Trek Segafredo for a month after being sentenced by the authorities of the Republic of San Marino to pay a fine of 4,000 euros for killing a cat with one shot from an air gun. Tiberi, originally from Frosinone, resides in San Marino and right there he was the subject of an investigation by the local Gendarmerie following the fact that dates back to last June. According to what Corriere della Sera reports, Tiberi was found guilty of hitting a cat in the skull with a carbine whose shooting ability he was "measuring".

The words reported are precisely those of the runner, who had also admitted to the judge that he had "first targeted a prohibition sign. Then I tried to hit a cat. To my surprise I actually hit it. I had no intention of killing the animal, in fact I was convinced that the weapon was not lethal". The carbine was duly declared by Tiberi, to whom it has now been confiscated. The episode had a resonance in San Marino also because the cat belonged to the Minister of Tourism and Post of San Marino, Federico Pedini Amati (formerly also head of state).

Tiberi , as reported by the Gazzetta dello Sport , will not race the Laigueglia Trophy, but also the next rounds of the season (which comes alive with the Strade Bianche, Paris-Nice, Tirreno Adriatico and Milan-Sanremo). Also according to the sportiv newspaper, Trek Segafredo is thinking of dismissing the rider.
