The Australian from Jayco-AlUla returns to the Grande Boucle with renewed ambitions after excellent placings at the Giro and the Vuelta

Ben O'Connor's smile is worth a thousand words. The Australian is back at the Tour de France and his ambition is great. His happiness and confidence are built on the solid foundations of his results in the Grand Tours.

The 29-year-old from Western Australia finished fourth in the 2024 Giro d’Italia and second in the Vuelta España after two weeks in the red jersey. He left Decathlon AG2R to join the more familiar Aussie vibes of Jayco-AlUla in 2025, while also becoming a father.

'I don't have to prove anything to anyone anymore. I know I'm a good rider and I've already shown that I can compete in the Grand Tours,' O'Connor said in Lille.

With ten Grand Tours under his belt, O'Connor has not ridden the Tour since 2023. 'Being away for a year reminds you that the Tour is the most important race ,' he said. 'It's where I want to shine again. I've done well recently in the Giro and the Vuelta, but it's been a while since I've been at my best in the Tour. This is the biggest race, with a unique atmosphere and energy.'

Despite not yet having won with the new Jayco-AlUla colours, O'Connor said he was ready for the Tour: 'I had some health problems at the beginning of the season but now I'm here, ready for the summer, my favourite time of year.'

The Australian is aiming high: 'I want to be in the top 10, fighting with the best. A fifth place would be ideal, but sixth, seventh or eighth would also be fine if I give my all . The important thing is not to make mistakes and always be with the best. This would give me great satisfaction in this Tour.'
