Matthew Brennan (Team Visma Lease a bike) wins the fifth stage of the Vuelta a Catalunya, from Paüls to Amposta (165.9km).

In the easiest section of the short stage race, several riders try to escape, albeit without much conviction. The last to give up, 25 km from the finish, is Paleni .

At the end of the race the fans split the group: among the men in the general classification, Van Eetvelt, Riccitello, Lopez and Lecerf remain behind.

At the front, 34 riders are playing for victory in the sprint: Brennan comes out again at the right time and gets the double, ahead of Del Grosso and Bittner .

Ayuso , thanks to a 1" bonus at the intermediate sprint, once again overtakes Roglic in the general classification.
