Strong winds, mountains fall. Simmons 'wins' in the end
It was supposed to be the queen stage of the Volta Catalunya 2025 with the uphill finish in Queralt and instead the race ended after just over twenty kilometers much lower. The 'fault' was the strong wind at altitude: given the weather alert in the region, the organizers shortened the stage for safety reasons.
It's a shame that, for almost two hours, the race was neutralized, with the group at a slow pace waiting for news. In the end, after a rather heated discussion between some runners and the race management, it was decided to finish early in Berga, without bonus points and, above all, with little wind.
In the end, Quinn Simmons of Lidl Trek celebrates, ahead of Pavel Bittner of Team Picnic.
In the general classification, everything remains unchanged with Juan Ayuso preceding Primoz Roglic by just one second and Enric Mas at 21 seconds.
It should be noted that Matthew Brennan, winner of two stages, did not start.
Tomorrow is the last stage, also this one already shortened due to simultaneous sporting events, in Barcelona, on the classic Montjuic circuit, for only 88 km.
