Penalties for bad behaviour in chaotic finale of Belgian classic

Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek) and Alexander Kristoff (Uno-X Mobility) were given a yellow card and a fine of 500 Swiss francs by the UCI jury after a hectic finale to the Classic Brugge-De Panne.

The penalty was for ' obstruction by a rider to prevent or delay the movement of another rider '. The contested incident occurred approximately 1.5 km from the finish , when Milan used his head to push away the Uno-X rider who had hit him with his shoulders.

The final part of the race was marked by several crashes that drastically reduced the group of sprinters. The last crash occurred shortly after the final kilometer, also involving Kristoff.

In the final sprint, reduced to a small group, Juan Sebastian Molano (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) launched a long sprint, with Milan almost completing a winning comeback to finish in second place.

Michael Schwarzmann (Israel-Premier Tech) was also shown a yellow card for 'slowing down and endangering other riders'.

The yellow card system

The system, introduced in 2025 after a test phase in 2024, provides for progressive sanctions:

- Two cards in the same match: disqualification and 7 days suspension

- Three cards in 30 days: 14 days suspension

- Six cards in 52 weeks: 30 days suspension
