Cavendish, Pozzovivo, Uran and more
There are many riders who will no longer be in the group in the 2025 season and who, therefore, you will no longer find available on the Fantacycling app.
Obviously the most famous name is that of Mark Cavendish , who at 39 decided to hang up his bike after winning the 35th stage of the Tour de France and thus breaking Eddy Merckx's record for victories. In total, the sprinter from the Isle of Man has won almost 165 races, including 55 stages between the Giro, Tour and Vuelta, a world title in 2011 and Milan-San Remo in 2009. Thomas De Gendt (38) is also part of the small circle of riders who have raised their arms in the three Grand Tours. The Belgian has two victories in the Tour behind him, in 2016 and 2019, but also a podium in the 2012 Giro. Lilian Calmejane , stage winner in the 2016 Vuelta and the 8th stage of the 2017 Tour de France, has decided to end her sporting career at the age of 31. Another French stage winner on the Grand Boucle has retired at the end of the 2024 season. This is Alexis Vuillermoz (36 years old), who triumphed atop the Mûr-de-Bretagne at the 2015 Tour and, more recently, at the 2022 Critérium du Dauphiné.
Michael Morkov (39) is considered the best last man of the sprinters ever. The Dane leaves after having raised his arms in a stage of the Vuelta in 2013.
Rigoberto Uran (37 years old) will also be missing in 2025. The Colombian climber finished 2nd in the Giro twice (2013 and 2014) and 2nd in the 2017 Tour de France, as well as winning a silver medal at the London Games in 2012. Domenico Pozzovivo retired at 41 after completing two top 5 Tours, in 2014 and 2018. Robert Gesink (38 years old) has called it quits after almost 20 seasons as a professional during which he finished in the top 10 of the Tour de France twice (5th in 2010 and 6th in 2015). Simon Geschke achieved the best victory of his career in the 17th stage of the 2015 Tour de France. At 38, the German ended his career as captain of Cofidis. Gorka Izagirre , 37, who won a stage at the Giro in 2017 and finished on the podium at Paris-Nice the following year, is also retiring. Vice-world champion in 2012 and winner of three stages at the Tour de France, Edvald Boasson Hagen (37) has left the professional peloton after a final stint with Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale.
Sébastien Reichenbach (35), Lawson Craddock (32), Dario Cataldo (39), Julien Simon (39), Niccolò Bonifazio (31) and Luke Rowe (34) have also ended their careers, as well as Andrey Amador (38). After being suspended by the International Cycling Union for anomalies in his biological passport, and then fired by Decathlon-AG2R, Franck Bonnamour (29 years old), has announced his definitive stop and farewell to the world of cycling.
