The Dane crashed in the first stage of the Valenciana

During the first stage of the Volta Comunitat Valenciana, Mads Pedersen was involved in a crash, fracturing his left wrist and right clavicle. The cyclist will undergo surgery tomorrow (February 5, 2026).

His team, Lidl Trek, wrote this after the Dane was hospitalized following the accident that saw him fall to the ground about 30 km from the finish line.

The team's priority is to ensure Mads receives the best possible care, with the immediate goal of a speedy recovery to minimize the impact on the season. The date of his return to competition, Lidl Trek explains, will be communicated at a later date, and further updates will be provided only as necessary.

This is a tough blow for Pedersen and those who have already signed him on Fantacycling. Remember, the former world champion was supposed to compete in Paris-Nice, Milan-San Remo, and the Northern Campaign in the first half of the season. At this point, it's very difficult to make it happen.
