Giro d'Abruzzo: D'Aiuto's masterpiece in stage 3

Filippo D'Aiuto won the third stage of the Giro d'Abruzzo, from Oricola (Piana del Cavaliere) to San Benedetto dei Marsi (159km).

The General Store rider joined the day's breakaway in the company of 5 other men and, with 22 km to go, remained alone in the lead with Oioli of Swatt Club.

With 14 km to go, D'Aiuto attacked again and dropped his last breakaway teammate. From behind, the main group attempted to react to compete for a compact sprint, with Team Ukyo and Ineos particularly active.

However, the 2002-born rider managed to hold on at the head and win alone, with an action similar to the one that had allowed him to triumph in the second stage of the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali in spring.

Behind D'Aiuto, 2" behind, were Godon and Dati , while Fancellu , ninth at the finish line today, maintains the leader's jersey with one stage to go in the race.
