Mathieu Van der Poel returns to post-Tour de France racing and wins immediately: the Alpecin rider put on a show in the first stage of the Tour of Luxembourg from Luxembourg-Knuedler to Luxembourg-Fëschmaart (157.5km).
The Dutchman unleashed several attacks in the final stages of the race, with one move in the company of Eike Behrens that was closed down by the group at 4 km to go.
In the final sprint, Bagioli tried to get ahead, but Mathieu Van der Poel had the better start, beating Gautherat and Van den Berg . The rest of the riders were a couple of seconds behind, with Hagenes in a group with Piganzoli and Raccagni Noviero.
