Another sprint finish, Bennet and Groenewegen penalised
Third stage of the Tour du Dauphiné : 194.1 km from Monistrol-sur-Loire to Le Coteau. The stage runs quite calmly, without forming a breakaway and at low speed; even the Cote de Pinay, the only climb in the final stages, is tackled without particular accelerations. Even the pure sprinters, detached or tired in the previous stages, can play for the victory of the day. Bora-Hansgrohe comes out at the perfect moment and launches Sam Bennet , but it's still Laporte who comes back and wins in the yellow jersey. Bennet closes second, while Groenewegen third. However, the jury considers the sprint of these last two riders to be irregular and penalizes them, so Trentin and Menten get on the podium of the day.
Laporte maintains the lead of the general classification for the third day with an 11" margin over Alaphilippe and 17" over Carapaz.
Tomorrow the first challenge between the big names with an individual time trial of 31 km.
