Last day to make changes and enter your lineup
Concluded the spring classics with the splendid victory of Remco Evenepoel at the Liège-Bastogne-Liège , we begin to enter into grand laps mode. The Giro d'Italia is upon us and will start next May 6th from Budapest , but first there is another very important race to focus on at Fantacycling : the Giro di Romandia .
Category 3 race, with five stages to tackle , including two time trials (even if atypical and not really for specialists), the Romandie 2022 represents a pitfall for all fantamanagers because the startlist is not so preparatory to the pink race and will see how protagonists, riders who will be able to do well in the Giro del Dauphiné , the Tour of Switzerland and perhaps the Tour de France . Therefore, the key will be to dose the changes well, focusing on elements to keep in the team even for future appointments.
One above all Damiano Caruso , who appeared in good shape in this first part of the season and ready to repeat the excellent performances of the past seasons. Taking it for the Romandie can mean a good investment also in the future (why not the Tour). Bahrain has a notable team with Dylan Teuns ( which you can confirm if you have chosen him for the Ardennes), Jack Haig and Gino Mader (the latter not at the level of 2021).
Speaking of riders from the Ardennes, it's good to have Michael Woods , Sergio Higuita , Ion Izaguirre , Marc Hirschi and Juan Ayuso in the team. Brandon McNulty deserves a separate speech, called at the last second to Team UAE to replace Pogacar at Liège, but who remedied a non-trivial crash. The American, if he is well, is one of the favorites, but the unknown remains. Another favorite to win will be Geraint Thomas of Team Ineos . The British team does not field its tops in this appointment ( Carapaz is already projected towards the Giro) and, in addition to the Welshman, launches the young Luke Plapp .
Team Jumbo Visma also leaves the big guns to rest (at least on paper) and shows up with Steven Krijuswijk , Sepp Kuss and Rohan Dennis .
There is curiosity in seeing Thibaut Pinot at work, found after the Tour of the Alps , together with his teammate at FDJ , Michael Storer .
We mentioned the difficulties of buying riders with a view to the Giro d'Italia , but there are some good names. For example Mattia Cattaneo of Quick Step or David de la Cruz of Astana ( in the Giro d'Italia he will have both Miguel Angel Lopez and Vincenzo Nibali on the team) . At the pink race they will not be top, but they could, perhaps, aim for a placement in the top ten and if you are short of changes, you could (with courage) choose them.
