Quebec GP: Evenepoel beats Ciccone in a sprint

Remco Evenepoel won the 15th edition of the Grand Prix de Québec, the first of two Canadian World Tour races run today over the 206 km distance.

The race, as always, was on a circuit: the first breakaway of the day featured Arndt, Ingebrigtsen, Rutsch, Van den Broek, Mikutis, and Boardman, with the peloton letting them lead for several kilometers. Things really started to unfold with 70 kilometers to go, with several attack attempts, particularly from riders from Lidl Trek, UAE Emirates, and Lotto.

The breakaway was caught with less than 60 km to go, and a new attack formed with several riders, including Narvaez, Ciccone, Bettiol, Hermans, Zambanini, and Pinarello. Bettiol himself attempted a solo effort, but Evenepoel wasn't having it and caught up with him along with Charmig, Ciccone, and Pinarello.

On the penultimate lap, there are three left: Remco, Ciccone and Charmig, while Simmons desperately tries to get back on the front (and on his teammate).

Charmig breaks away on the final climb, and Evenepoel outsprints Ciccone to take the win. Charmig finishes third, Pidcock fourth ahead of Simmons and Matthews.
