Vuelta España, Stage 19: Dunbar beats Buitrago in the breakaway

Eddie Dunbar wins the nineteenth stage of the Vuelta España, from Vélez-Málaga to Peñas Blancas.Estepona (210.8 km).

The fight to get into the breakaway today was very tight, with the group of escapees managing to break away after over 100 km of racing. Carapaz also attempted an attack, but his move was halted after a few kilometers.

There are 16 riders left at the front, fighting for the stage win, with the red jersey group having no interest in the win. The leaders thus approach the final climb with a lead of over 7 minutes.

The first attack came from Buitrago , who took off with two Q 36.5s: Gloag and Dunbar . Berrade later managed to catch up with the trio. Behind them, Red Bull dictated the pace.

With 2 km to go, Buitrago attacked decisively, but Dunbar surprisingly managed to catch him with 500 meters to go. The Irishman immediately dropped his rival and went on to win solo. Buitrago took another second place, with Gloag third.

There's a lot of wait-and-see attitude among the top riders, and Roglic is trying to make a move, but he's unable to make a difference. The top five finishers are all in the same place, with no gaps.
