We have identified the flops of the 2022 season, those riders who have not scored many points despite a 'weight' name, real disappointments that have angered many fantasy managers. Six of the nine athletes examined have already been published on our Instagram page.
The last three names are so important that they deserve a brief study.
Julian Alaphilippe (553 fantasy points) : the times when the Frenchman won stages and one-day races putting on a show are very long gone. The double World Championship exploit may have consecrated him but 2022 was one to forget thanks to three terrible crashes at the Strade Bianche, Liège and Vuelta which, in fact, never allowed him to remain at the top. His year ends with two victories (stage in the Basque Country and the Tour of Wallonia) and few placements. All that remains is to wait for a prompt ransom (and a good dose of luck).
Michael Woods (566 fantapoints) : the three consecutive retirements in the final races of 2022 are the mirror of his season. Immediately crashed in the Vuelta, in the Tour he was forced to abandon even before the final stage in Paris after an anonymous Grand Boucle. Unrecognizable even when the road climbed hard, the Canadian will see his 2023 price drop significantly.
Caleb Ewan (477 fantasy points) : seven successes obtained in 2022 but far from the World Tour (apart from one stage at the Tirreno). In the sprints he looked like a distant relative of the runner he has appreciated in previous years. With a direct opponent at home (De Lie), he risks being overwhelmed by events next year as well.
