The official announcement has arrived from Team Visma. Van Aert will return to the Italian classics.

It's now official: Jonas Vingegaard will be at the 2026 Giro d'Italia. The long-awaited announcement came via a social media video from Visma Lease . Bike, in which the riders from the men's and women's teams communicate their choices for the season. The Dane will start with the UAE Tour, then compete in the Tour of Catalunya , and then head to the Giro d'Italia , before his next appointment with the Tour de France: " I've been thinking about participating in the Giro for a while. It's one of the most important races on the calendar. It's also a race I've never done before," said Vingegaard. "I want to add the pink jersey to my trophy cabinet."

The pink jersey would allow Vingegaard to join the "triple crown" club (that is, riders who have won all three Grand Tours in their career), ahead of Tadej Pogacar , who could complete the feat a few months later at the Vuelta . In any case, for Vingegaard, winning the Giro d'Italia would be a first sign of strength against his rival, before the head-to-head battle at the Tour de France.

The Visma Lease a Bike video also highlights the choices of Matteo Jorgenson , who will race Strade Bianche, Tirreno-Adriatico, and Milan-San Remo, before the Ardennes trilogy, the Tour de France, and the Giro di Lombardia. Wout Van Aert, meanwhile, has announced that he will return to the Italian classics: he will therefore compete in Strade Bianche, Tirreno-Adriatico, and Milan-San Remo, before focusing on the Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix, and, at the end of the season, the World Championships in Canada. The Belgian will race two Grand Tours in 2026: the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España.
